Cutting Board - "Art Series" - Tasmanian Oak inset with slices of Daylesford Blackwood
Hi, my name is David, thank you for visiting my store.
I'm a retired "Old School" Carpenter. The Bonnie Timber Board journey began during a long lazy lunch, when I saw that our food was presented on a soulless, piece of mystery wood.
Determined that beautiful food deserved so much better, I was soon creating Timber Boards that were not just functional, but also pleasing to the eye, displaying the natural beauty of woods textures, grain patterns and vibrant colours at its best.
I understand that buying a Timber Board online can be a little daunting, so I do my best to describe each Board accurately and I don’t touch up the images. As clear as I can make it what you see and read is absolutely genuine.
This Board:
One of my "Art Series" Boards crafted from beautiful Tasmanian Oak inset with slices Blackwood branches I gathered from the bush near Daylesford. This Board is crafted to be Double sided - so you can use underside to cut on and with upper side with the decorative sliced Timber to serve on if you wish - so a two for one Board !.
The slices of Timbers are individually shaped and adhered to the Body board and then wrapped in Black epoxy resin resulting in a solid, hardy Board ready for years of Kitchen and entertainment action !
Timber Details:
Body Timber - Tasmanian Oak [E. delegatensis, E. obliqua & E. regnans] - is a premium Australian hardwood timber encompassing three species that grow in the mountainous areas of Tasmania. Warm, dense and resilient, Tasmanian oak is light in colour, varying from straw to reddish brown with intermediate shades of cream to pink.
Inset Timber - Blackwood – [Acacia melanoxylon] - Although called ‘blackwood,’ the name is somewhat of a misnomer, as its wood is not really black, rather it’s heartwood is a rich golden brown. Blackwood is a medium-sized Australian hardwood that grows in the wetter areas of the Eastern states.
It is definitely an ‘appearance timber’, with a heartwood that is a rich golden brown. This is sometimes complimented by reddish streaks or a narrow band of darker colour, indicative of the growth rings. The sapwood is much paler in appearance. Blackwood has a medium and even texture. Its grain can either be straight or have a wavy, fiddle back pattern.
Dimensions: 470 mm long x 280 mm wide x 42 mm thick.
Weight: Approximately 3.7 Kilos
Finish: Every Bonnie Timber Board is repeatably fine sanded in between coats of a high quality, food safe, hard wax oil, then finally hand sanded with extremely fine sandpaper and hand buffed with our wood butter, a small can of which is included with the Board you purchase.
Please note: Each Bonnie Timber Board is a one of a kind. Wood is a natural material and may have knots or grain variations that are not depicted. These variances should not be viewed as imperfections, but as qualities that make each piece unique.
