the central timber in this piece is called Conkerberry from North Queensland, a tangled, spiny shrub that grows up to 2 to 3 meters high with glossy green leaves and sharp thorns.

It was valued as a traditional food source by Indigenous Australian groups, the berries are eaten fresh or dried and stored to be soaked in water later.

Conkerberry wood is a striking bright orange colour, with tight graining and makes for a stunning piece of shelf art, which stands by itself just about anywhere inside your home.

Insert Timbers:  Conkerberry slices with end cut dowels of Huon Pine, Brushbox,  Jarrah, American White Oak, White Pine, Blackwood and Rose gum

Structure: All the separate end grain cut dowel pieces have been enveloped in a quality clear epoxy resin resulting in a solid Artwork.

Frame: I framed this piece myself in American White Oak

Finish: This piece has  been surfaced and fine sanded, then finished  with two coats of quality Fiddes Hard Wax Oil, then finally polished with our Wood Butter, a can of which is included with your purchase.
