This lovely piece of timber is known as "Buddha Wood" and it's fairly rare to have such a large piece this beautiful.
I've kept most of the "Live Edge" because the natural graining and character speaks to the harsh environment that this tree had grown in somewhere in outback Queensland.
The species was first formally described in 1848 by the botanist George Bentham with the description published in the book Journal of an Expedition into the Interior of Tropical Australia.
One of many plants utilised by Aboriginal groups, Buddha Wood plants could often be found amongst the few possessions carried by nomadic groups in case of injury. As it was recognised for its strong antibacterial and analgesic properties.
Buddha Wood is now highly valued in aromatherapy and perfumery for its grounding, earthy, and smoky aroma.

The Board has been surfaced and fine sanded, then completed with two coats of quality Fiddes Hard Wax Oil, a Food Safe Finish.
